Building Stronger Families And Marriages In Chattanooga Tennessee

If you live in the Chattanooga Tennessee and have a family you are very lucky. My wife and I moved here 3 years ago and love it. It is a great place to live and raise a family. Recently we found out about a great local organization and want to help spread the word. This organization is dedicated to building a stronger community by building stronger families.

If you live in the Chattanooga Tennessee and have a family you are very lucky. My wife and I moved here 3 years ago and love it. It is a great place to live and raise a family. Recently we found out about a great local organization and want to help spread the word. This organization is dedicated to building a stronger community by building stronger families. In 1997 a group of civic leaders banded together with that realization. They realized the future of our community here in the Chattanooga area lies in the health and vitality of the family unit. They formed First Things First, a non-profit organization dedicated to building a better community by supporting and helping keep families together though education, collaboration and mobilization.

Here are some of the things and events they have going on:

The First Things First Show
Tune in the last Friday of every month at 8:30 p.m.to the First Things First Show on WTCI Channel 45 (cable channel 5).
Julie Baumgardner will tackle the tough issues families face today with local experts.
You can catch a re-airing of the First Things First Show Saturday mornings at 6:30 a.m. on WRCB TV3 (cable channel 4).
If you miss an episode, DVDs are available in the FTF Marriage and Family Resource Center.

Family Moments Radio Show
Sunday Nights at 7 on Talk Radio 102.3

191 momentsbigFTF’s Rozario Slack and Heather Wilson host call-in talk show on WGOW – Talk Radio 102.3 on Tuesday nights from 7 to 8.

They cover topics that are significant to our lives like the sanctity of marriage, the welfare of our children and the importance of developing healthy relationships.

Nurturing Stepfamilies Workshop

Saturday, May 5

Time: 9 a.m. – noon

Location: First Things First Office (620 Lindsay Street)

Cost: $10 a couple

Instructors: Ken and Ruth Brinkley

Attendees will gain an understanding of how past relationships, family make-up and popular myths affect your views on your role as a stepparent, discuss ways to cope when your stepfamily dynamics cause you to "hit the wall" and want to look for the nearest exit, and discuss ways to let go of past hurts, build a loving family, and enjoy the joys that life has to offer.

Celebrate Black Marriage Day

First Things First invites you, your organization, and/or your place of worship to participate in the fifth annual Black Marriage Day (BMD) to be held on Sunday, March 25, 2007. Chattanooga will join more than 50 other cities across the country establishing a Black Marriage Day Marriage Hall of Fame.

FTF is hosting the first annual Chattanooga Marriage Hall of Fame to be held locally at First Baptist Church on East 8th Street, Sunday, March 25, 2007 at 3:30 p.m.
