Getting Kids Out of Bed in the Morning
Do your children wake up with a battle every morning? Or it is a battle, where you end up yelling at them to get out of bed and get dressed? Morning routines are sometimes one of the most dreaded times of day for parents. Supernanny to the rescue with her great advice on how to have a successful and peaceful morning routine.
Supernanny addresses an age-old issue, helping a sleepy child get out of bed and thrive. The video starts with visiting a home where the two children are barely awake at the breakfast table. Supernanny claims the Rise and Shine technique is just what the children need. Rise and shine techniques are tailored to fit each individual. What may work for one won’t for the other, you need to test out the technique and figure out which one to use for each child.
Supernanny recommends starting the morning routine the night before by choosing their clothes and set the alarms. Then in the morning, do a “pre-wake up” by gently opening their door and turning on a soft light before the alarm goes off. Once the alarm goes off a few minutes after the gentle pre-wake up the children should rouse easier. Right after rising, washup, dress and come to breakfast ready to leave.
Not all children are the same and the above method may not work. Some may need some interaction with their child, a gentle talk, rub their head, encouragement to wake up. Children like this may need an extra pull off the covers once the alarm sounds. Encourage them to dress. Don’t ask, but give a simple command like, “Tell mommy when you’re dressed.” When they do as asked, praise them. It raises the expectations and stops the morning wake up battles.
